St. Louis, Mo. - Lewis University freshman defender
Jamie Hansen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport ) broke a 1-all tie in the 89th minute to propel the visiting Flyer women's soccer team to the 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Missouri-St. Louis at the Don Dallas Soccer Field on Friday (Sept. 22).
With the score tied, Hansen picked up a loose ball, broke through the Triton backfield and beat UMSL keeper Maggie Harma for the game-winner at the 88:47 mark.
With the win, Lewis improves to 4-3 on the campaign and 3-2 in conference action, while the Tritons fall to 2-4-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The victory extends Lewis' winning streak to three matches; the Flyers' longest since a four-match stretch during the 2013 campaign.
Hansen's backline mate
Allie Mikos (Geneva, Ill. /Geneva) opened the scoring up for the Flyers with her first career goal at the 17:50 mark. Flyer midfielder
Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminister Christian) assisted on the play.
Hansen and Mikos' scores were the only shots on goal for the Flyers all night.
UMSL's Lexi Norton tied the game up in the 64th minute, beating Lewis goalkeeper
Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) to the high right side. Meyer finished the match with four saves.
Lewis' defense continues to be stellar, as the Flyers have held their opponents to one or fewer goals for the seventh-straight contest. That is the longest stretch by a Flyer team since they accomplished that feat over the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
UMSL outshot Lewis, 12-4, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 24), as the Flyers head to Lebanon, Ill., for a 12 PM first kick against McKendree.
