Midland, Mich. - Lewis University women's tennis had a strong showing on Friday (Sept. 22), after day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional hosted by Northwood University.
For Lewis, No. 1 seeded
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy)Â and
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) beat Jane Carter and Kena Bere (UIS) 8-2. The pair then went on to defeat Rebekah Anderson and Lina Kunert (Maryville) 8-1 to advance to the third round of the 32 draw doubles bracket.
Oana Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand)Â and
Simone Parn (Parnu, Estonia) also made it to the third round after defeating Steph Ritson and Adeline Nelson (Davenport) 8-3, and No. 8 seeded Salome Bleuler and Leticia Lunge (UMSL) 8-5.
In the 64 draw singles bracket No. 3 seeded Andrejszki defeated Silvia Verebes (Ferris State) 6-1, 6-1. She then followed that up by beating Aimee Moccia (GVSU) 6-2, 6-1.
No. 4 seeded Mindiyarova defeated Abby Perkins (GVSU) 6-2, 6-1, but then lost to Khadija Da-Silva (Wayne State) 6-2, 6-2.
Trus who was seeded at 14 defeated Annie Hays (UMSL) 6-1, 6-1, and then defeated Bere (UIS) 6-1, 6-1.Â
Parn was eliminated by No. 2 seeded Larissa Karl (Drury) losing 6-3, 6-2. In the 32 draw consolation singles bracket she lost to Jennifer Skonieczny (Bellarmine) 9-8, 6-3.
The tournament will continue Saturday (Sept. 23).
