Lebanon, Ill. - Lewis University's
John Horstman (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette Catholic) wasted little time in the extra session as the sophomore midfielder scored less than a minute into overtime, earning the 1-0 (OT) victory for the Flyer men's soccer team over McKendree University at Leemon Field on Sunday (Sept. 24).
Horstman took the feed from sophomore defender
Claude Kameni (Berlin, Germany/OSZ Gesundheit) and beat McK goalkeeper Brett Niedzwiecki (5 saves) at the 90:58 mark for the 'golden goal'.
With the win, Lewis improves to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in GLVC action, while the host Bearcats fall to 2-5 on the campaign and 0-5 in conference play. The win is the Flyers' fourth in their last five matches.
Lewis goalkeeper
Philip Huang (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) made four saves to earn his second shutout of the season.
McKendree outshot Lewis, 11-10, but the Flyers held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Sept. 29), as the Flyers meet Southern Indiana for a 7:30 PM kickoff at Lewis Stadium.
