Midland, Mich. - Sunday (Sept. 24), marked the end of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional for the Lewis University women's tennis team.
No. 3 seeded
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy) beat Bella Bergmen (Indianapolis) 7-6 (5), 6-5 in the third round of the 64 draw singles bracket. She then beat Dasha Kuznetsova (Wayne State) 6-2, 6-4 in the quarter final. In the semi finals Andrejszki lost to No. 2 seeded Larissa Karl (Drury) 5-7, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (6).
No. 14 seeded Oana Trus faced No. 1 seeded Hannah Volikova (Indianapolis) losing 6-4, 6-0.
In the 32 draw doubles bracket Lewis' No. 1 seeded pair of Andrejszki and
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) made it to the finals after beating No. 5 seeded JiaQing Mo and Julia Schepp (Drury) 8-1, and defeating No. 4 seeded Maggie Walroth and Ashley Johnathon (Bellarmine) 8-4. Andrejszki and Mindiyarova would then lose to No. 2 seeded Volikova and Alina Kislitskaya (Indianapolis) 8-5 in the finals.
The Flyers next tournament will be the Wildcat Invitational September 29-October 1 hosted by Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
