St. Louis, Mo. - The seven-match sweep streak came to an end for the No. 3 Lewis University women's volleyball team, but its winning streak did not, as the Flyers claimed the 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Missouri-St. Louis at the Mark Twain Building on Friday (Sept. 29).
Lewis (13-1, 5-0 GLVC) has won eight straight matches, while the host Tritons fall to 10-4 on the campaign and 3-3 in conference play.
The Flyers received double-doubles from outside hitters
Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central).
Preuss had a match-high 13 kills and 10 digs, while Hyland picked up 10 kills and a career and match-high 28 digs.
Flyer redshirt senior right side hitter
Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) collected 12 kills, while freshman setter
Haley Sobieralski (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) dished out a match-high 26 assists.
Lewis sophomore middle hitter
Caroline Stefanon (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) racked up a match-high nine blocks (1 solo) in the victory, keying the Flyers to a 17-7 block advantage over UMSL.
Lewis hit .183 (48 kills, 20 errors, 153 attacks) for the match, while UMSL recorded a hitting percentage of .094 (46-30-171).
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 30), as the Flyers meet Quincy for a 3 PM showdown.
