Honolulu, Hawai'i - The No. 8 Lewis University women's volleyball team passed its first test with flying colors, as the Flyers outlasted No. 3 Nebraska Kearney, 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 22-25, 15-8, in second day action at the Hawai'i Challenge, hosted by Hawai'i Pacific, on Sunday (Sept. 3).
With the win, Lewis improves to 3-0 on the campaign, while the Lopers drop to 3-1 overall.
Lewis junior outside hitter
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) turned in an outstanding performance with a double-double of 23 kills and 18 digs.
Flyer senior middle hitter
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) and sophomore outside hitter
Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) combined to hit .560 (30 kills, 4 errors, 50 attacks). Schneider had 16 kills and recorded a hitting percentage of .538 (16-2-26) along with seven block assists. Preuss notched a double-double of 14 kills and 17 digs, while hitting .500 (14-2-24).
Lewis redshirt senior right side
Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) picked up 10 kills, while redshirt junior setter
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) picked up a match-high 57 assists.
Lewis wraps up the Hawai'i Challenge at 5 PM (HT) on Sunday against Hawai'i Pacific.
