ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis Flyer women's basketball team hits the road this weekend for a quick two game road swing to Indianapolis and Wisconsin-Parkside. The Flyers will take on Indianapolis at 12 p.m. (CST) on Saturday and then head up to Kenosha, Wis., on Monday to take on the Rangers at 5:30 p.m.
Lewis ran its win streak to five on Thursday with a 75-60 win over Bellarmine at Neil Carey Arena.
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) finished with 27 points and nine rebounds in the contest to lead the Flyers. It was the seventh straight game that Kelliher has scored at least 20 points.
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) added 13 points while
Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) finished with nine.
Lewis led for a majority of the contest and got off to a good start shooting 80 percent from the field in the opening quarter. The Flyers cooled a bit in the second quarter making only 8-of-17 attempts but still shot 59 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes.
Lewis dominated in the paint outscoring the Knights 52-28 in the paint and had a 16-8 advantage in fast break points.
Kelliher continues to lead the GLVC and Division II in scoring raising her scoring average to 25.4 points per contest.
ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS: The Greyhounds fell to 5-11, 2-4 in GLVC play after a 71-58 loss at 22
nd ranked Southern Indiana on Thursday evening. The 'Hounds held a 37-35 lead at halftime thanks to shooting 45 percent from the floor but went cold in the second half making only 7-of-28 attempts from the floor and was 0-for-10 from beyond the arc. Martha Burse and Taylor Drury led UIndy with 24 and 21 points respectively.
Burse leads the Greyhounds in scoring with 22.8 points per game and is joined in double figures by Ashley Montanez who is dropping in 12.2 points per contest and leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 boards per game. Alexa Bailey leads the team with 44 assists.
ABOUT WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE: The Rangers enter Saturday's game against Bellarmine with a record of 6-10, 2-2 in the GLVC after losing at Missouri S&T last Saturday 79-63. Parkside fell behind 13-2 to begin the game but closed the gap to six points midway through the opening quarter. The Rangers had now answer for S&T's Janie Arand who scored the final 11 points of the frame to give the Lady Miners a 17-point lead at the quarter break. S&T led by as many as 26 points in the contest.
Parkside is averaging 69.8 points per game but is giving up 77.6 points a contest. It's led in scoring by Ali Bettencourt with nearly 16 points per outing while Carolina Rahkonen is dropping home 11.1 points a game and Hayley Maystead is averaging just over 10.5 points per contest. Georgie Eishold leads the team in rebounding with 6.6 per contest.
