Flyers look to climb over .500 mark

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's basketball team looks to climb over the .500 mark for the first time this season as it plays host to Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and against McKendree at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

The Flyers (10-11, 5-6 GLVC) won their second straight game overcoming a 13-point deficit in the final five minutes to defeat Quincy 76-75 on Adam Pischke (Cary, Ill./Marian Central Catholic)'s three-pointer from the top of the key with 10.5 seconds left in the game.

Cristen Wilson (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) led the Flyers with 27 points while Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) added 18 points and Pischke finished with 11.

Lewis is averaging 76.2 points per game this year and is led in scoring by Wilson with 17. Blaylock is adding 16.8 per game and Pischke is contributing 11.3 points per outing to the attack. Wilson also leads the team in rebounding with 8.6 per outing while Blaylock and Pischke share the team lead in assists with 43 apiece.

During all four of the Flyers home contests during the month of February they'll be raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. For $2, fans can purchase a rubber duck and at halftime of both the men's and women's games people can chuck the ducks on the court with the closest one to the center circle winning half of the pot.

ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS: The Tritons enter Thursday's contest with a mark of 9-10, 4-6 GLVC and have dropped three of their last four contests. There one win the stretch was a 79-49 victory over Rockhurst at home last Thursday. UMSL has struggled away from the Mark Twain Building in conference play dropping six of seven contests.

The Tritons are averaging nearly 70.2 points per game but are giving up 69.2 per contest. They're shooting 43.4 percent from the floor, have hit 147 3-pointers and are outrebounding their opponents by a rebound per game.

Johnathan Matthews leads three players averaging double figures with 11.4 points per game while Steven Davis is dropping in 10.3 per out outing and Elijah Watson is contributing 10.1 a contest. Jose Grubbs and Eric Dust lead the team in rebounding with 4.6 per game while Watson has dished out a team-high 88 assists.

ABOUT MCKENDREE: The Bearcats enter the week with a record of 11-9 but have lost eight of 10 games in GLVC play and have lost seven of their last eight contests heading into Thursday night's game at Indianapolis. In its last outing McKendree dropped an 86-56 decision at home against Southern Indiana last Saturday.

The Bearcats are averaging 80.2 points per game while yielding 71.6 per outing. They're shooting 46.3 percent from the field, 35 percent from three and 73 percent at the foul line. They're outrebounding their opponents by nearly seven rebounds per game.

Justin Blanks is one of five players averaging over double figures in scoring this season with 18.8 points per game. Rathen Carter is dropping in 14 points per outing, Nate Michael is contributing 13.1 ppg while Nolan Gerling and Malcolm Mabry are adding 10.7 points per game each. Mabry leads the team with 9.5 rebounds per game and Giovanni Offard has handed out 77 assists.
