ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team plays three of its next four games at Neil Carey Arena beginning on Thursday evening against the Tritons from Missouri-St. Louis at 5:30 p.m. The homestand continues on Saturday afternoon against McKendree at 1 p.m.
Thursday's contest will between two of the hottest teams in the GLVC as Lewis has won 10 straight and 13 of its last 14 while Missouri-St. Louis has won five in a row and nine of 11.
The Flyers (17-4, 10-1 GLVC) ran their winning streak to 10 in a row with an 83-67 win at Quincy last Saturday. All five starters reached double figures in scoring led by
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) with 28 points and 13 rebounds.
Lewis enters Thursday's contest averaging 74.2 points per game and is shooting 47 percent from the field. It's outrebounding its opponents by six rebounds per outing and is averaging 15.8 assists per game.
Kelliher has recorded four straight double-doubles and continues to lead the nation in scoring at 25.3 points an outing. She's shooting 67 percent from the field, tops in the GLVC, and leads the team in rebounding with 8.3 per game and has a team-high 21 blocked shots.
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) leads the team in assists with 96 and steals with 42 to go along with her 8.3 points per game.
During all four of the Flyers home contests during the month of February they'll be raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. For $2, fans can purchase a rubber duck and at halftime of both the men's and women's games people can chuck the ducks on the court with the closest one to the circle winning half of the pot.
ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS: The Tritons enter Thursday's contest with a mark of 12-5, 6-4 GLVC after defeating Bellarmine 72-61 last Saturday. UMSL has struggled away from the Mark Twain Building in conference play dropping four of five contests.
The Tritons are averaging nearly 70 points per game while yielding exactly 60 per contest. They're shooting 42 percent from the floor, have hit 109 attempts from three and are outrebounding their opponents by 4.5 rebounds per game.
Arielle Jackson leads four players averaging double figures with 13.2 points per game while Jordan Fletcher is dropping in 12.9 per out outing, Shawnta Johnson is averaging nearly 11 points per game and Sammie Sproul is contributing 10.4 a contest. Johnson leads the team in rebounding with 6.9 per game and has dished out a season-high 75 assists.
ABOUT MCKENDREE: The Bearcats enter the week with a record of 8-9, 4-6 GLVC and have lost two straight heading into Thursday night's contest at Indianapolis. In its last outing McKendree dropped a 74-62 decision at home against Southern Indiana last Saturday.
The Bearcats are averaging 66.1 points per game while yielding 65.2 per outing. They're shooting close to 40 percent from the field, 28 percent from three and 71 percent at the foul line. They're outrebounding their opponents by 4.8 rebounds per game.
Jordan Heberg leads the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game while Dyndey Diekhoff is contributing 10.6 per outing. Jordan Morton leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 boards per game and Callie Pohlman has handed out a team best 51 assists.
