Kansas City, Mo. - The Lewis University men's soccer team fell to Rockhurst 3-1 Friday (Oct. 12) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Bourke Field. Jesus Ochoa (Chicago, Ill.) scored his third goal of the year for the Flyers.

After a quiet 20 minutes of play, Lewis (3-7-3 overall, 2-6-1 GLVC) recorded the first shot on goal from Marty Biskis (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) that was saved by Nick Randazzo. The Hawks (5-5-2, 4-3-2) got off a pair of shots on goal, but Lewis goalie Edgar Avila (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) was up to the challenge, keeping the game scoreless at the 32:13 mark.

At 34:58 Ochoa broke the ice when he chipped in a goal over the keeper from six yards out, with the assist going to John Horstman (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette Catholic). Rockhurst spent the next five minutes on the attack, generating two corners and three shots, but could only muster one shot on goal, which was saved by Avila as the Flyers went into the break up 1-0.

Rockhurst tallied the equalizer in the 50th minute on a header from a yard out by Fabio Reato, assisted by Filippo Santandrea and Pablo Lopez. The Hawks then took the lead in the 74th minute on a penalty kick by Lopez.

Lewis had multiple chances to tie the game but had a pair of shots blocked, a shot by Ochoa was saved and a shot by Edgar Garcia (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) went high. Rockhurst clinched the win with 18 seconds left on a goal by Jordan Andrews from 15 yards out, assisted by Chandler Peterson and Nandor Benucci.

The Flyers return to the pitch Sunday (Oct. 14) to take on William Jewell at 2:30 p.m. in Liberty, Mo.
