ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis women's soccer team bounced back from a tough defeat on Friday night with a 2-0 win at William Jewell on Sunday afternoon. The Flyers (8-4-2, 7-3 GLVC) scored both of their goals in the final 20 minutes.

Lewis had the game's first great scoring chance in the 15th minute. Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) took a shot that was saved off the line by Gracie Schweinfurth. Parnello had another chance in the 36th minute which hit the crossbar.

The game was delayed for roughly 30 minutes near the end of the first half when the Cardinals (7-7-1, 4-6 GLVC) goalkeeper, Kaylie Kappelmann, suffered a broken leg and had to be taken off the field by ambulance.

The Flyers held a 13-10 edge in shots and 5-4 in shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes.

Lewis broke the scoreless deadlock in the 74th minute on Cali Havelka-Vanderplow's (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) third goal of the season with an assist from Courtney Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South).

William Jewell came right back looking for the equalizer taking three shots in a span of less than three minutes. Bri Riscossa (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) came up big making a pair of saves on shots from Kayla Crowder.

The Flyers added an insurance goal in the 81st minute. Courtney Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) took a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper's hand and bounced to Kayley Garland (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) who put it in for her first goal of the season.

Lewis finished the contest with a 21-18 advantage in shots and 11-8 in shots on goal. Each team had a pair of corner kicks.

Parnello and Havelka-Vanderplow combined for 12 of the Flyers 21 shots in the contest while Riscossa made eight saves for her first shutout of the season.
