ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Maryville on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium.
Jesus Ochoa (Chicago, Ill.) led the Flyers (4-9-3, 3-8-1 GLVC) with two shots.
Lewis had three scoring chances in the first 16 minutes of the contest with the best one coming off the foot of Ochoa. Ochoa sent a shot towards goal that looked to be going in but didn't dip enough and went over the bar.
Maryville (8-4-3, 7-3-2 GLVC) broke the scoreless deadlock with a goal in the 22nd minute. Diego Coy intercepted a pass of a deflection and found Helmut Florencia who scored from 10 yards out.
The Saints went into the intermission with the 1-0 lead and outshot The Flyers 6-3 and 2-0 in shots on goal.
Ochoa had a chance at the equalizer three minutes into the second but his shot his blocked. Lewis then had a pair of corner kicks in the 80th minute but were unable to get anything on goal.
Maryville tacked on an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when Mirza Hasecic scored off a cross from Diego Coy and Ricardo Andrade.
John Horstman (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette Catholic) had a chance to put the Flyers on the board with less than a minute to play but his shot hit the crossbar.
The Saints outshot Lewis 11-5 and 4-0 in shots on goal and took eight corner kicks compared to four for Lewis.
The Flyers conclude the season on Wednesday hosting Southern Indiana in a 12 p.m. contest at Lewis Stadium.
