ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to Maryville 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers (9-5-2, 8-4 GLVC) outshot Maryville (8-4-3, 7-4-1 GLVC) 10-5 in the contest.
The Saints had the wind for the first half and held the ball primarily in the Lewis end. Amanda Kaltwasser had a pair of chances in the third and 27th minutes but
Bri Riscossa (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.
Kianna Clark (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Crystal Lake South) had a chance in the 15th which went wide.
Maryville outshot the Flyers 2-1 in the first half with both chances on goal.
Lewis dominated the second half outshooting the Saints 8-2 and had several good opportunities. The best chance came in the 82nd minute.
Courtney Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) took a shot from the right side of the penalty area and tried to bend it inside the left post but it didn't drop enough and missed over the bar.
Carley Patterson (Traverse City, MI/Elk Rapids) had a chance in the 84th minute but her shot hit off the post.
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) had a chance in the 89th minute but missed it wide.
Sengstock had another chance less than five minutes into overtime but missed wide.
Maryville scored the game-winner in the 96th minute as Mariah Loya scored her third of the season off an assist from Allison Verville. Loya took a shot from the top of the penalty area that she tucked inside the left post.
Clark and Parnello combined for five of the Flyers 10 shots in the contest. Each team had three shots on goal.
The Flyers conclude the regular season on Wednesday hosting Southern Indiana in a 2:30 p.m. contest at Lewis Stadium.
