ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The 22nd ranked Lewis women's volleyball team won its third straight match sweeping Maryville on Tuesday night at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers (19-6, 10-3 GLVC) hit .376 and recorded 46 kills in the contest.
The two sides went back-and-forth to begin the match before Lewis took control with a 6-2 run.
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) had a pair of kills in the run while
Morgan Goodman (Cedar Hills, Mo./Home) and
Caroline Stefanon (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) added one each. The Saints (6-20, 0-14 GLVC) cut the Flyer lead to 16-15 on back-to-back kills from Cassidy Arndt. Lewis responded scoring four of the next five points to extend its lead back to four but the Saints refused to go away climbing to within 20-19 on a kill from Liz Eardly.
The Flyers were able to close out the set by scoring five of the final six points of the frame. Goodman and Stefanon led the way with five kills each in the stanza.
Lewis dominated the second set hitting .682 and recorded 15 kills against zero errors in 22 chances. Hyland had six kills in the frame to lead the Flyers. The frame was tied at 4-4 when Lewis pulled away thanks to a 21-3 run to win 25-7.
The Flyers led wire-to-wire in the final set and led by as many as 10 points in the stanza. They recorded 16 kills and hit .351 in the finale. Hyland and
Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) led the way with four kills each while Goodman, Stefanon and Foster added two kills each.
Hyland had a match-high 13 kills while Goodman added nine and Stefanon finished with eight. Preuss had seven kills of the bench.
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) dished out 33 assists and Katarzynski had 14 digs.
Lewis returns to action on Friday traveling to Springfield, Ill., to take on the Prairie Stars at 7 p.m.
