BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Lewis women's swimming team split its tri-meet against Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State on Friday evening at the Fort Natatorium in Bloomington, Ill. The Flyers defeated the Titans 141.5 to 136.5 and lost to Illinois State 216 to 77.
Lewis finished first and second in the 100-yard backstroke with
Gabby Jeffers (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) winning the event with a time of 59.92 while
Stephanie Palczynski (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South High School) finished narrowly behind her at 59.95.
Ebony McCray (Avondale, AZ/Agua Fria High School) won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.99 which is a pool record at Illinois Wesleyan. She also had second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. McCray swam the 50 free in a time of 24.92 and finished the 100 free in 54.41 seconds.
The Flyers recorded a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Jeffers,
Hannah Zuercher (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X), Ianthe Van Der Westhuizen and Daniela Navarette finishing in a time of 1:53.40.
Lewis returns to action next weekend as it travels to Indianapolis to compete in the University of Indianapolis Quad Meet beginning on Friday.
