ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis men's soccer team had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 2-0 loss against Drury at Lewis Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Neither side was able to muster much offense in the opening 45 minutes as the two teams combined for just two shots, one apiece, with the Panthers (2-8-1, 2-5-1 GLVC) putting the lone shot on goal.
Drury broke the scoreless tie with a goal early in the second half. Francesco Ferri stole the ball and fired a left footed shot from 20 yards out into the upper left corner for his second goal of the season.
The Flyers (3-6-3, 2-5-1 GLVC) had a couple of chances to even the score. The first came in the 50th when
Alexis Robles-Ibarra (Harvard, Ill./Harvard) missed wide and then
John Horstman (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette Catholic) had a chance 0:30 later that was saved by Nico Helin.
The Panthers added an insurance goal with 7:23 left in the game. Jamie O'Brien scored off a rebound of a blocked shot into the open net for his fourth of the season. Trevor Cairns and Joao Machado were credited with the assists on the goal.
Lewis had another chance to get in the board in the closing minutes but
Konrad Malinowski's (Arlington Heights, Ill./Wheeling) shot was saved by Helin.
Drury held a 10-4 advantage in shots and 5-2 in shots on goal. The Flyers had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Lewis returns to the pitch on Friday traveling to Kansas City to take on Rockhurst at 7:30 p.m.
