HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Lewis women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season defeating Hillsdale 77-55 on Sunday afternoon in Hillsdale, Mich. The Flyers improved to 1-1 while the Chargers fall to 0-2.
Lewis had three players reach double figures in scoring in the contest led by
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) dropped in 17 points and
Stephanie Hart (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) finished with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting, 3-for-3 from the three-point line.
Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and
Kaitlyn Williams (Homer Glen, Ill./Joliet Catholic) finished with eight points apiece.
The Flyers shot 45 percent (28-for-62) from the field, hit 5-of-16 attempts from three and shot 76 percent at the foul line. They outrebounded the Chargers 46-35 in the contest and turned 14 turnovers into 14 points.
Hillsdale was held to just 33 percent shooting in the contest, was 8-for-31 from three and 5-of-8 at the foul line. Makenna Ott led Hillsdale with 12 points in the game.
Lewis dominated down low outscoring the Chargers 36-18 on points in the paint and 18-11 in second chance points.
The Flyers broke open a close game with a 19-0 run over the final five minutes of the opening quarter and the first five minutes of the second quarter to take a 25-5 lead after a layup from Glatczak.
Lewis led by as many as 28 points in the contest and never allowed Hillsdale to get closer than 15 points.
The Flyers host Benedictine in an exhibition contest on Tuesday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m.
