Plainfield, Ill. - A pair of Flyer wins weren't enough as the Lewis University women's tennis team fell to Valparaiso 5-2 Sunday (Feb. 18) in a nonconference match at Five Star Tennis Center.
The Flyers were victorious in a singles and doubles match, with two matches ending up unfinished.
In singles,
Oana Carmen Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) snagged the win for the Flyers, topping Meg Modesto 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy) trailed 6-3, 5-4 in her No. 1 singles match when it ended, while
Simone Parn (Parnu, Estonia)'s No. 4 singles match was 4-6, 4-4 when it ended. The Crusaders picked up a win at No. 2 singles when Jelena Vujanic beat
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) 6-1, 6-1. They also won two singles matches by default.
In doubles, Lewis was victorious at he No. 2 spot as Mindiyarova and Parn defeated Randi Wind and Dao Sysouvanh 8-6. Andrejszki and Trus fell 8-5 at No. 1 doubles to Claire Czerwonka and Vujanic, while
Megan Conlin (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) and
Hailey Bruining (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) fell 8-5 to Modesto and Erin Staal at No. 3 doubles.
The Flyers fell to 2-2 on the season, while Valparaiso moves to 4-5.
Lewis travels to Wichita, Kansas to take on Newman Saturday (Feb. 24) at 1 PM.
