PLAINFIELD, Ill. - The Lewis University men's tennis team edged Wayne State 5-4 Sunday (March 18) at Five Star Tennis Complex. It is the third straight win for the Flyers.
Lewis moves above .500 for the first time on the season with the win (6-5), while Wayne State falls to 7-7.
In doubles, the tandem of
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia) defeated Mats Westkamp and Taylor Vane 8-5, while
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and
Anton Levitin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove)Â beat Griffin Mertz and Harvey Reed 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles team of
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton) lost 8-6 to Niklas Karcz and Derek Sammons.
In singles, Braschinsky beat Westkamp 6-2, 6-7 (7-0), 6-4 at No. 1, Peterson beat Reed 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 and Stimpert got the best of Sammons 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Lusti fell 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 to Vane, Norasith lost 6-2, 6-2 to Mertz at No. 3 and Levitin lost 6-1, 6-1 to Karcz at No. 5.
The Flyers travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on Southwest Missouri Baptist Tuesday (March 20) at 5 PM.
