SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 contest to Illinois Springfield Friday (March 30) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for the Flyers at Washington Park.
It was another strong showing for
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy)Â and
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577), as each went 2-0 in the day. Andrejszki, ranked No. 71, beat Jane Carter at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2, while Mindiyarova won her No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-2 over Ana Boza Martin.
Oana Carmen Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) fell 6-4, 6-1 to Maegan Flight and
Simone Parn (Parnu, Estonia)Â lost 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to Kena Bere at No. 4 singles.
In doubles it was the No. 27 ranked combination of Andrejszki and Trus defeating Carter and Boza Martin 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and Mindiyarova and Parn taking down Bere and Kaitlyn Thornhill 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
The loss drops the Flyers to 7-7 on the year, 0-1 in the GLVC, while UIS improves to 11-5 overall, 2-0 in the GLVC.
Lewis is back in action Wednesday (April 4) when it travels back to Michigan to take on Hillsdale.
