SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - A 3-0 performance by the doubles teams for the Lewis men's tennis team helped it beat Illinois Springfield 5-4 Friday (March 30) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Washington Park.
The win moves No. 48 Lewis to 7-8 on the year overall, 1-0 in the GLVC, while UIS falls to 8-8, 0-2 in GLVC.
The No. 10 ranked doubles team of
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia) beat Sam Clarke and Tommy Martinez 8-2 at No. 1 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and
Anton Levitin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) took down Pete Molloy and Oscar Toro 8-2, while the No. 3 tandem of
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton) and
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) beat Logan Hayes-Burgess and Alex Chan 8-6.
Winning singles matches for the Flyers were No. 28 Braschinsky 6-1, 6-2 over Molloy at No. 1 and Stimpert over Jon Ayers 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. Lusti fell to Clarke 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 at No. 2, Norasith lost to Burgess-Hayes 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 3, Levitin lost 6-3, 6-1 to Martinez at No. 4 and Peterson fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to Chan at No. 5.
The Flyers travel to Michigan Wednesday (April 4) to take on Hillsdale.
