AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Behind eight hits from the first three batters in the Lewis lineup, the Flyers had an offensive explosion, scoring 10 runs in a 10-4 win over Saint Anselm Monday (March 5).

Lewis got three hits from leadoff hitter Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere), who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, four RBI and a home run. Second batter Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) went 3-for-5 with a run scored and a double, while third batter Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI.

The Flyers (2-5) also got a big contribution from the bottom of the lineup as eighth hitter Troy Hajdukovic (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) went 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored, while ninth batter Ryan Schefske (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a double.

Blake Marks (Gardner, Ill./Gardner-South Wilmington) (1-1) picked up the win on the mound, allowing six hits and three earned runs over seven innings, striking out seven batters. Adam Krol (0-1) suffered the loss for Saint Anselm (4-5), allowing seven earned runs and eight hits in 4.1 innings.

Lewis jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Rutherford blasted a two-run home run after a Hajdukovic walk. The lead grew to 7-0 in the top half of the fifth inning. It started with a Hajdukovic double that was followed by a Schefske double, scoring Hajdukovic. Rutherford then singled, scoring Schefske. After a flyout, Tyrell singled in Rutherford. Trayvon Johnson (Berkeley, Ill./St. Joseph's) followed with a single and Jermaine Terry (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) walked, loading the bases. A balk advanced all of the runners, scoring Tyrell. Then Johnson scored on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Cavalieri (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick).

Saint Anselm got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the eighth to make it a 7-4 game going into the ninth.

The Flyers put the game away with three runs in the ninth, on doubles by Schefske and Tyrell sandwiched singles from Rutherford and Post.
