AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Lewis University baseball team fell 10-3 to Minnesota State Tuesday (March 6) during their Spring Break Trip.
The Flyers (2-6) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first, but came back to make it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the first when
Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) hit his fourth home run of the year over the right field fence.
The Mavericks (3-3) added three more runs in the second inning, one in the third and two in the sixth to take an 8-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. Rutherford led off the inning with a triple down the right field line and
Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) followed with a RBI single to center to make it 8-2.
After two more Maverick runs in the top of the seventh,
Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) came back in the bottom of the seventh to hit his first home run of the year to cap the scoring in the game.
Rutherford finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Flyers. Dalton Roach (2-0) earned the win for the Mavericks, going seven innings, allowing five hits and three runs, striking out 12.
Jay Militello (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) (0-2) went five innings for Lewis, allowing eight hits and four earned runs.
Ryan Ward (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) pitched two shutout innings for the Flyers.
Lewis travels to Kissimee, Fla. for a game against Cedarville Wednesday (March 7) at 5:30 p.m.
