DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A couple of close losses proved to be the difference for the Lewis University women's tennis team in a 5-4 loss to Embry-Riddle Wednesday (March 7) in a nonconference meeting.
No. 30 ranked
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy)Â and
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) each went 2-0 on the day to lead the Flyers (4-3).
Andrejeszki won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Maria Turrillo, while Mindiyarova won her No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-4 over Roberta Krvajica. In doubles, Andrejszki teamed with Oana Carmen Trus to take down Sabrina Ehrenfort and Gerogina Wood 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Mindiyarova teamed with
Simone Parn (Parnu, Estonia) to beat Kathryn Bock and Turillo 8-4.
With the Flyers defaulting at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, the match came down to the other three singles matches. In tight matches, Trus fell at No. 3 singles 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) to Wood and Parn lost at No. 4 singles 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 to Ehrenfort as Embry-Riddle improved to 3-5 on the year.
Lewis is back in action Saturday (March 10) when it takes on Oakland City in Homewood, Ill. at 10 a.m.
