AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Lewis University baseball team fell to Minnesota State 19-7 Thursday (March 8) in seven innings.
The Flyers (3-7) scored a run in the top of the first as Trayvon Johnson had a RBI single to score
Ethan Bloom (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) after an earlier double by Bloom.
Minnesota State (5-4) came back in the bottom half of the first with 10 runs to take control of the game. The Mavericks added two more runs in the third and six more in the fourth to build an 18-1 advantage.
Lewis had a big inning in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs. After a hit batter and a walk,
Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) had a RBI single. Another hit batter loaded the bases with two outs.
Kyle Kane (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth) came in as a pinch hitter and delivered a two-RBI double.
Anthony Cavalieri (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) followed it up with a two-RBI single.
Minnesota State scored once in the bottom of the fifth and the Flyers finished the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh as
Matt Verdun (Homer Glen, Ill./St. Rita) hit a pinch hit home run to open the inning.
Quinn Ahern picked up the win for the Mavericks, allowing three hits and one run in four innings of work.
Dalton Hottle (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville)Â took the loss for the Flyers.
Lewis continues its trip Friday (March 9) at 1:30 p.m. against conference foe Missouri - St. Louis.
