Flyers Drop Pair To Wisconsin-Parkside on Tuesday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis Flyer softball nine dropped both games of its non-conference doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside on Tuesday afternoon at the Lewis Softball Field. The Rangers (20-24) won the opener 6-2 and the nightcap 4-3.

Game 1 – Wisconsin-Parkside 6, Lewis 2
Parkside jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on Megan Alverti's two out single down the left field line with the bases loaded. The Flyers (18-26) put the tying runs on base in their half of the third but were unable to bring them home.

The Rangers added to its lead in the fourth on an RBI single off the bat of Madison Manders which scored Jessica Miklos. Parkside scored two more runs in the fifth on a double from Alverti and a ground out from Danielle Crockett.

Lewis was held without a hit until the fifth inning when Morgan Weber (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) broke up the no-hitter with a solid single to left. Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) added a two out single back up the middle but a fly out to center ended the threat.

The Flyers broke through in the sixth as Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) led off the inning with a double to left center and went to third on Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) single to left. Cassie Shaw (Moline, Ill./Moline) drove in DeMasi with sacrifice fly to center to make it 5-1. Later in the inning Weber singled up the middle to score Amy Bukovsky (Aurora, Ill./Montini Catholic). Lewis then loaded the bases thanks to back-to-back walks to bring the go-ahead run to the plate but a ground out ended the inning.

The Rangers tacked on an insurance run with a solo home run to left off the bat of Adrien Hall.

The Flyers finished with five hits in the contest led by Weber with two while DeMasi, Sanders and Prieto added a hit each. Shaw started the game and went the first four innings allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts to fall to 6-9.

Game 2 – Wisconsin-Parkside 4, Lewis 3
Parkside jumped on top first in game two on a two-run home run to right center off the bat of Morgan Moore. They added to their lead in the third on a two-run single with the bases loaded from Allison Hausl.

Lewis had its chances in the first five innings stranding seven runners on base. Weber broke up the shutout hitting her second home run of the season leading off the sixth.

The Flyers rallied in the seventh scoring two runs on two hits and an error by the Rangers. Cierra Taylor (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) drove in Prieto with a double to left-center and then Sanders reached on a dropped fly ball that scored Taylor. The game ended though on a ground out back out to the circle.

The Flyers had nine hits in the nightcap led by Prieto, DeMasi, Taylor and Weber with two each. Taylor Boelte (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) threw a complete game allowing four runs on nine hits and two strikeouts.

Lewis is back at home on Wednesday hosting Saint Xavier in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
