QUINCY, Ill. – The 10th ranked Lewis Flyer men's volleyball team snapped its two-match losing streak with a dominating sweep at Quincy on Thursday night. The Flyers (17-10, 8-5 MIVA) hit .527 for the match and had only four attack errors in the contest.
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, IL/Minooka) led Lewis with 10 kills while
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) and
Julian Moses (Atlanta, GA/Atlanta International School) finished with seven kills apiece.
Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) distributed 21 assists while Coenen led the way with six digs.
The Flyers held the Hawks (12-17, 0-13 MIVA) to a negative .046 hitting percentage and forced them into 19 attack errors. Lewis finished the match with nine total blocks.
The Flyers fell behind 3-0 to start the match but responded with an 11-3 run to build a five-point lead after a kill from Coenen. Quincy cut the deficit to 11-8 after block from Shane McAdams but Lewis countered with a 10-3 run to extend its lead to double figures and cruise to a 25-13 set win.
The middle stanza was tied at 7-7 early before the Flyers began to pull away with a 10-4 run. Perinar and Moses combined for four kills in the set deciding run. The Hawks wouldn't get closer than four the rest of the set as Lewis closed it out by scoring five of the last six points to win 25-17 and take the commanding 2-0 lead.
The third set was all Flyers as they scored the first four points of the set and never trailed on its way to a 25-9 win. Quincy got as close as two early on before Lewis put it away with a 16-3 run to build its largest lead of the match at 15 points.
The Flyers conclude the regular season on Saturday when they take on Lindenwood in a 3 p.m. match at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
