SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team dropped a pair of games against No. 4 Illinois-Springfield, 6-5 in 10 innings and 5-2 Friday (May 4) at UIS Baseball Field. The Flyers fall to 19-25-1 on the year overall, 8-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Illinois-Springfield moves to 43-5, 21-1 in GLVC. The two teams will play two more games Saturday (May 5), beginning at 12 p.m.

Game 1 – UIS 6, Lewis 5 (10 innings)
The Flyers opened the scoring as
Trayvon Johnson (Berkeley, Ill./St. Joseph's) doubled home a run in the first inning and
Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) followed with a RBI single that scored Johnson. A
Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) single helped make it a 3-0 Lewis lead in the fifth when a fielding error scored a run. The Prairie Stars evened the score with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to send the game into extra innings.

Austin Tittle (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) singled to center field to score
Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere), giving the Flyers the lead back.
Matt Verdun (Homer Glen, Ill./St. Rita) singled to extend the lead to two, scoring Tittle. In the bottom half of the 10
th though Michael Rothmund hit a three-run home run with two outs to win the game for UIS.

Post went 3-for-4, while Tyrell, Johnson and
Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) all had two hits.
Pete Hamot (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) went 7.1 innings on the mound, allowing five hits and three earned runs, striking out eight. Cam Zunkel (2-1) picked up the win, while
Brady Kostecki (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) (1-5) had the loss.

Game 2 – UIS 5, Lewis 2
Johnson again got the scoring started in the first inning, this time on a fielder's choice, scoring Tyrell. UIS answered in the first to tie the game at 1-1. Johnson added another RBI in the third inning on a triple, again scoring Tyrell to give Lewis a 2-1 lead. The Prairie Stars came back with two runs in the third and added two more in the sixth to win the game.

Tyrell went 2-for-4 for the Flyers.
Charlie Wright (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) (1-1) went 5-2 innings on the mound, allowing four hits and five runs. Andrew Dean moved to 10-0 for the Prairie Stars.
