ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis women's soccer team rallied from a pair of one goal deficits but were dealt a 3-2 loss to Cedarville on a late goal on Saturday afternoon at Lewis Stadium.
The Yellowjackets (2-0) got on the board first scoring in the 22nd minute. Creslyn Van Dyck sent a corner kick into the box which
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) tried to punch over the crossbar but it hit the bar and bounced to Taylor Noll who put it in for her second tally of the season.
The Flyers (0-1-1) tied the game two minutes later scoring on a corner kick of their own.
Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminister Christian) served the ball into the box and
Karlie Cummins (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) was able to head it into an open goal for her first of the season.
Cedarville regained the lead in the 27th minute when Mackenzie Northcutt chipped in one from outside the box for her first goal of the season.
Lewis had chances in the 30th and 36th minutes but
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) had one shot saved and another went wide.
The Flyers outshot the Yellowjackets 6-5 in the first 45 minutes and 4-3 in shots on goal.
Lewis tied the game in the 70th minute after a Cedarville foul 33 yards from goal. Richardson hit a perfect ball to
Carley Patterson (Traverse City, MI/Elk Rapids) who got a foot on it to redirect inside the right post for her first of the season.
The Yellowjackets scored the game winner 10 minutes later. Aleah Martone crossed the ball into the middle of the box and Northcutt was on the other end to knock it in.
The Flyers finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots, 7-6 in shots on goal and 10-2 in corner kicks.
Lewis is back in action on Wednesday afternoon when it travels up to Somers, Wis., to take on former GLVC rival Wisconsin-Parkside at 2:30 p.m. at Wood Road Field.
