Lewis Men's Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision At Quincy

Amoo-Mensah scores for the Flyers

Quincy, Ill. - The Lewis University men's soccer team fell to Quincy 3-1 Friday (Sept. 21) at Legends Stadium in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match. Devon Amoo-Mensah (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) scored the goal for the Flyers on a header in the 62nd minute off an assist by Alexis Robles-Ibarra (Harvard, Ill./Harvard).

The Hawks (3-3-1 overall, 2-0-1 GLVC) scored two goals in less than a minute span late in the first half, both on penalty kicks. At 37:34 Cooper Reis scored on a penalty kick and at 38:10 Kingsford Adjei followed to give Quincy a 2-0 lead at the half. In the half the hosts held an 8-3 shot advantage and a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Flyers had a chance to get within a goal early in the second half off a corner kick by John Horstman (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette Catholic), but the header by Amoo-Mensah was saved by goalie Adam Whybrow. Less than a minute later Aubrey Reis added a third Quincy goal at the 49:54 mark on a shot from 25 yards out, assisted by Max Chretien, to build a 3-0 lead.

Lewis (1-3-3, 0-2-1) got on the board at 61:53 when Amoo-Mensah found the back of the net for the first time on the season off a cross by Robles-Ibarra. Robles-Ibarra had a shot on goal later in the half that was saved by Whybrow.

The Flyers controlled the play for much of the half, finishing with a 9-4 shot advantage (4-2 on goal) and a 6-0 corner kick edge.

Lewis returns home Sunday (September 23) to take on Illinois Springfield for a 12 p.m. kick.
