PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Lewis men's tennis team finished its second day at the Saint Joseph's Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Flyers went 3-3 on the day in singles competition with
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia) winning two singles match on the day.
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) defeated Johns Hopkins Scott Thygesen in the second round of singles flight one draw by the score of 6-3 and 6-4. Braschinsky then faced Villanova's Tyler Roth in the quarterfinals. Braschinsky dropped the opening set 6-2 but was leading in set two 5-3 when he had to retire.
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) dropped his second round match in straight sets to Delaware's Luis Molina 7-5, 6-4.
Ambrozic defeated Saint Joseph's Beekman Schaeffer 6-2, 6-2 in the flight one singles consolation bracket and then bounced Johns Hopkins Vishnu Joshi in the consolation quarterfinals in three sets. Ambrozic won the opening set 6-1, lost set two 7-6 (5) before winning the final set 10-8 to advance to the consolation semis on Sunday.
Rounding out the day for the Flyers was
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton). Stimpert lost in three sets in his consolation match in the flight two singles competition to Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Ryland Byrd. Stimpert won the opener 6-4 but Byrd rallied to win the last two by scores of 7-5 and 10-7.
Lewis concludes play in the Saint Joseph's Invitational on Sunday. Ambrozic and Braschinsky will play in the consolation bracket in the doubles flight one draw at 7 a.m. (CT) and then Ambrozic will play his singles consolation semifinal match later in the day.
