ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The fifth ranked Lewis women's volleyball team put together a dominant performance in its sweep of Quincy on Saturday afternoon at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers (8-2, 2-0 GLVC) hit .419 for the match and had nine different players register a kill.
Lewis led for the entirety of the opening set using a 10-2 run to extend a 9-6 lead to 19-8.
Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and
Colleen Wilhelm (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) had two kills apiece in that run while Becker and
Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York) each had service aces. Quincy (5-5, 0-2 GLVC) cut the deficit to 21-12 after a kill from Stephanie Mizeur. The Flyers then proceeded to score the final four points of the set all off of Hawk errors.
Lewis opened the second stanza scoring 11 of the first 13 points and led by as many as 14 points in cruising to the 25-11 win. The Flyers hit .462 in the second set recording 13 kills against one error in 26 chances. Six players recorded at least two kills in the frame led by Preuss with three.
Lewis used a 10-4 run in set three to break a 4-all tie and then pulled away for the 25-16 win. The Flyers hit .500 (16 kills/2 errors/28 attacks) in the final set and were led by Preuss with four kills while
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central),
Morgan Goodman (Cedar Hills, Mo./Home) and
Ava Venema (Westmont, Ill./Timothy Christian) added three kills each.
Preuss finished with a match-high eight kills while
Tori Foster (Munster, Ind./Munster) added seven and Hyland chipped in with six kills. Goodman, Wilhelm and Venema contributed five kills each. Becker dished out 19 assists and Hyland registered nine digs.
The Hawks were held to a .043 hitting percentage (24 kills/20 errors/93 attacks) for the match. Sarah Brown had five kills to lead Quincy. Mizeur, Taylor King and Kaeley Mueller added four kills apiece. Sara Rathburn had 15 assists and eight digs.
Lewis continues its five match homestand on Tuesday hosting Missouri-St. Louis at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. Tuesday's match will be Flyer Spirit Night and Red Out Night.
