CHICAGO, Ill. – The Lewis women's swimming team won 10 of 11 events in its 126-58 victory at Illinois Tech on Friday evening.
The Flyers opened the evening finishing first and second in 200 yard medley relay. The team of
Meghan Beese (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South),
Hannah Zuercher (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X),
Ebony McCray (Avondale, AZ/Agua Fria High School) and
Gabby Jeffers (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) won the event with a time of 1:52.31. Lewis' second team in the event of
Stephanie Palczynski (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South High School),
Meaghan Bower (Lenexa, Kan./Shawnee Mission),
Emily Pickett (Surprise, Ariz./Willow Canyon) and
Rachel Marsh (Houston, Texas/Mirabeau B. Lamar) posted a time of 1:54.92.
Ianthe Van Den Westhuizen (Randfontein, South Africa) and
Taylor Vera (Wyoming, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central) went first and second in 1,000 yard freestyle with times of 11:04.42 and 11:51.25 respectively. The Flyers took the top three spots in the 200 yard freestyle with
Shelby Gertson (Phoenix, AZ/Seton Catholic Preparatory) taking the top spot with a time of 2:03.81.
Marie Grzybek (Inverness, Ill./William Fremd) and
Daniela Navarrete (Panama City, Panama) finished second and third respectively.
McCray won the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.91 while Jeffers,
Morgan Lagestee (Munster, Ind./Munster) and
Krystal Gillespie (Yorkville, IL/Yorkville High School) took the next three spots. McCray picked up her second event of the evening winning the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.57. Bower, Van Den Westhuizen, Navarrete and Gertson finished second, third, fourth and fifth respectively in the race.
Lagestee won the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.35. Beese won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.09 while Palczynski won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:18.24. Zuercher took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke finishing with a time of 1:10.97.
The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Bower, Pickett, Beese and Palczynski took the spot finishing with a time of 1:45.45.
The Flyers return to the pool next Friday (Jan. 18) when they take on Olivet Nazarene and the University of Chicago in a tri-meet at the University of Chicago at 6 p.m.
