BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Lewis University women's tennis team fell to Illinois State 4-0 on Sunday (Jan. 27) at the Bloomington Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ill.
With the loss the Flyers fall to 0-2 on the year, while Redbirds move to 4-0.
In the No. 1 singles match
Oana Carmen Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) dropped the opening set to Tara Damnjanovic 6-0 and was tied 4-4 in set two when the dual was clinched.
Tereza Pilzova (Prague, Czech Republic) dropped her first set to Jana Kustkova 6-4 but was leading 4-2 in the second set when the match ended.
At No. 3 singles
Joie Reisch (LaGrande Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) trailed Natalia Bravo 5-4 in the opening set when the dual was called.
Aleksandra Sredojevic (Belgrade, Serbia) lost her match at No. 4 singles to Ivon Mihaleva in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
In the No. 5 singles match
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) lost to Estelle Vanthier 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles competition Trus and Sredojevic lost to Veronika Golanova and Damnjanovic 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Pilzoa and Reisch trailed Kustkova and Mihaleva 4-2 when the doubles portion was clinched.
Lewis lost by default at no. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
The Flyers return to the court on Friday (Feb. 1) hosting Tiffin at 9 a.m. at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.
