Story Links

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' sixth ranked women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to a season-high seven matches with a sweep of Parkside on Tuesday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers improve to 13-1 while the Rangers drop to 4-10.

Lewis used a 6-3 run early in the opening set to extend its lead to 15-11 after an attack error by Hallie McGuire. Parkside answered scoring four of the next five points to trim the deficit to one on a kill from Emma Habisch. The Flyers countered with a 4-1 run to extend its lead back to four on a kill from Alexandra Preuss (Elmhurst, Ill./York).

The Rangers closed the gap to 22-19 but Lewis served out the set scoring three of the final four points to win the opener 25-20.

The Flyers dominated the second set scoring the first five points of the frame and never looked back on its way to a 25-16 victory. Ava Venema (Westmont, Ill./Timothy Christian) and Farah Taki (North Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) had three kills apiece in the set as Lewis recorded 14 kills and hit .226 in the stanza.

The Flyers controlled a majority of set three building a 19-10 lead after a kill from Gisela Bode (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie). Parkside wouldn't go quietly though running off seven of the next eight points to cut the Lewis lead to 20-17 after an ace from Ann Leo.

The Flyers closed it out scoring five of the last six points to win 25-18.

Preuss led Lewis with 10 kills while Venema and Taki finished with eight kills each. Haley Sobieralski (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) added 20 assists and Ronni Katarzynski (Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) finished with 16 digs.

The Flyers finished the match hitting .226 (41/17/106) and had eight team total blocks. Lewis' defense held Parkside to a .063 hitting percentage.

The Flyers return to action on Friday as they head to St. Louis to take on Maryville at 7 p.m.
