ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' women's soccer team extended its winning streak to a season-high three games with a 1-0 win over Indianapolis on Friday evening at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers improve to 6-4-1, 4-3-1 GLVC while the Greyhounds fall to 7-2-1, 5-2-1 GLVC.
Both teams took three shots in the first half with each registering a shot on goal.
Lewis broke the scoreless draw seven minutes into the second half. After it won a throw in on the far side of the field,
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) dribbled towards the end line and fired a cross across the box to
Allie Mikos (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) at the back post. Mikos was all alone and headed it into the empty goal.
The 'Hounds had a chance to even the score in the 59th minute but
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) came up with the save. They had another chance in the 66th minute but once again Clark was there to make the save.
UIndy had one final chance with a free kick in the final two minutes. Dana Youssef took the kick from just off the top of the box. Lewis' defense knocked it up in the air and Clark made a diving save to prevent it from going into the goal.
The Greyhounds finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots and 4-2 in shots on goal. Each side took three corner kicks.
Lewis concludes its four game homestand on Sunday hosting Bellarmine at 12 p.m.
