ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' women's soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime draw against Bellarmine on a windy Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers are now 6-4-2, 4-3-2 GLVC while the Knights are 8-3-1, 5-3-1 GLVC.
Bellarmine scored first with a goal in the 21st minute. Samantha Ferry scored on a shot from 32 yards out over the hand of
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) for her third goal of the season. Camryn Pictor and Rosie Taylor were credited with assists on the goal.
The Knights held a 3-1 advantage in shots and had the lone shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
Lewis evened the score 15 minutes into the second half.
Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) crossed a ball from the endline into the box where
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) tapped it in for her team leading sixth goal of the season.
Parnello nearly had the game winner with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation. She took a shot just from outside the box that nearly went in but it the crossbar and went over.
Bellarmine had a chance to win the game in the first overtime session off a free kick. Alex Harber nearly headed a shot at the back post but
Alissa Waits (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) was there to prevent the ball from going into the goal to preserve the tie.
Lewis had a couple of chances in the second overtime but both missed wide.
The Flyers finished the game with an 11-6 edge in shots while both teams had two shots on goal. Each side also had two corner kicks.
Lewis returns to the pitch on Friday as they travel to Lebanon, Ill., to take on McKendree at 5 p.m.
