KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lewis' women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Rockhurst on Friday evening at Bourke Field in Kansas City, Mo. The Flyers fall to 6-6-3, 4-5-3 GLVC while the Hawks improve to 11-3, 9-3 GLVC.
The game was scoreless at the half but Lewis had the better of the scoring opportunities as it outshot its hosts 7-6 and had the lone shot on goal. That shot on goal came from
Christine Szymanski (Orland Park, Ill/Sandburg) in the 14th minute.
The Flyers had four opportunities to break on top in the first 10-plus minutes of the second half taking four shots.
Maddie Levins (Elmhurst, Ill./York) had a shot that was saved 1:20 into the frame and
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) followed with a chance 65 seconds later that was also saved.
Karlie Cummins (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) missed a header attempt wide right in the 54th minute and Parnello missed wide left with a shot in the 56th minute.
Lewis had another chance in the 69th minute when
Allie Mikos (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) struck one off the woodwork.
Rockhurst broke the deadlock with 14:33 left in the contest. Greta Seal served a ball into the box where McKenna Leach got a foot on it to redirect into the goal for her third of the season.
Szymanski nearly tied the game a minute later but was robbed on a leaping save by Megan Meyers.
Parnello had another chance with 10 minutes as she headed one towards goal but it was saved off the line.
The Flyers finished the contest outshooting the Hawks 14-13 and 5-3 in shots on goal. Each side had four corner kicks in the contest.
Lewis concludes its four game road trip on Sunday as it travels to Liberty, Mo., to take on William Jewell at 12 p.m.
