ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' women's soccer team snapped a five-game losing streak against Quincy with a 2-1 win over the Hawks on Sunday at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers improve to 5-4-1, 3-3-1 GLVC while the Hawks fall to 3-6, 2-5 GLVC.
The win for Lewis was the first against Quincy since a 2-1 on Oct. 17, 2014.
Kailey Parnello (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) put the Flyers on top heading home a corner kick from
Mallory Richardson (Bartlett, Ill./Westminister Christian) in the fourth minute for her fifth goal of the season.
Lewis added an insurance goal in the 29th minute when
Christine Szymanski (Orland Park, Ill/Sandburg) ripped home a shot from the top of the box for her first goal of the season.
Sidney Riemer (Grafton, Ohio/Midview) set up the play tapping it back to Szymanski.
The Flyers outshot the Hawks 7-1 in the first 45 minutes and 3-0 in shots on goal.
Quincy applied pressure in the first 20 minutes of the second half putting three shots on goal but
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) was up to the challenge stopping all three.
Szymanski and Parnello each had chances for a second goal but were denied by Emilee Autry.
Quincy broke Lewis' attempt for a second straight shutout with a goal in 89th minute as Paige Anderson scored off an assist from Mo Rooney.
The Flyers ended the game outshooting the Hawks 11-8 and 5-4 in shots on goal. Lewis also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Flyers continue their four game homestand this Friday (Oct. 11) against Indianapolis at 5 p.m.
