Three-Point Shooting Carries Flyers To 65-41 Win Over Northern Michigan

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' women's basketball team hit 13 three-pointers while shooting 52 percent from beyond the arc to pick up its first win of the season defeating Northern Michigan 65-41 on Sunday afternoon at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers improve to 1-1 while the Wildcats drop to 1-1.

Lewis fell behind early on three-pointer by Jessica Schultz 1:43 into the contest. The Flyers responded with back-to-back three's from Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Kaitlyn Williams (Homer Glen, Ill./Joliet Catholic) sparking a 10-0 run.

Lewis never trailed after that point. The Wildcats cut the lead to 10-8 but the Flyers responded with three's from Reilly Olmstead (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and Stephanie Hart (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) to take a 16-8 with 0:11 left in the quarter. Northern Michigan threw in a three right before the buzzer from about 35 feet out to cut Lewis' lead to five at the quarter break.

The Flyers opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run behind a pair of three's from Hart and one from Glatczak to extend its lead to 14 points. The Wildcats the lead to 12 with 4:43 to go in the quarter but Lewis countered with a 7-1 run over the next 3:41 to take its largest lead of the half at 34-16 on a pair of free throws from Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist).

Northern Michigan hit a three on the next possession to cut the Flyer lead to 34-19 at the half.

Lewis shot 44 percent (11-for-25) from the floor in the opening half but did most of its damage from downtown making 8-of-15 three's. Glatczak and Hart each had nine points in the half to pace the Flyers.

Lewis' defense held the Wildcats to just 26 percent shooting (6-for-23) in the half and 4-of-11 from three. Erin Honkala led NMU in scoring with six points while Schultz and Lexi Smith had five points each.

The Flyers scored the first five points of the second half to extend their lead to 20 the 'Cats responded with a 5-0 run of their own to get it back to 15 but Lewis outscored them the rest of the quarter 7-4 to take an 18-point lead into the final quarter.

Northern Michigan cut the lead to 15 early in the fourth quarter before the Flyers put the game away with a 12-4 run. The run was highlighted by a Williams three that seemed to circle around the rim three times before dropping to extend the lead to 58-37 with 4:17 to play.

Lewis led by as many as 25 on Alyssa Streeter's (Chicago, Ill./Jones Prep) three-pointer with 2:14 remaining.

The Flyers finished the game shooting 46 percent (22-for-48) from the field and was 8-of-9 at the foul line to go along with their 13-for-25 shooting from three. They outrebounded the Wildcats 31-26 and forced 19 turnovers in the contest.
Glatczak led all scorers with 15 points while Hinders added 11. Hart and Williams chipped in with nine points each. Nine different Flyers scored in the contest. Hinders and Williams had seven rebounds apiece while Glatczak blocked four shots.

Smith led Northern Michigan with 11 points while Schultz added seven rebounds. The Wildcats finished the contest shooting 31 percent (14-for-46) from the floor and was 7-for-22 from three.

Lewis hits the road for the first of five straight traveling to Midland, Mich., next Saturday to take on Northwood at 12 p.m. (CST).
