LEBANON, ILL. – Lewis' eighth ranked women's volleyball team bounced back after a tough four set loss on Friday night sweeping McKendree on Saturday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill. The Flyers improve to 22-4, 8-3 GLVC while the Bearcats drop to 11-14, 4-7 GLVC.

Lewis fell behind 3-0 to begin the match before coming back to even things at 10 on a kill by Juliana Van Loo (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs). The Flyers took the lead for a good with a 6-3 run. McKendree cut the lead to 16-15 on a service ace by Macy Tongate but that was the closest they got as Lewis closed the set on a 9-2 run to win the opener 25-17.

The middle stanza was tight with the Flyers leading 12-10 before pulling away thanks to a 12-3 run to win the set 25-14 to take the commanding 2-0 lead. Lewis hit a whopping .593 in the frame recording 18 kills against two errors in 27 chances. Colleen Wilhelm (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) had five kills in the set while Van Loo and Ava Venema (Westmont, Ill./Timothy Christian) added four kills each. The Flyer defense held the Bearcats to a .143 hitting percentage in the frame.

Lewis led by as many as five points in the final frame but McKendree refused to go quietly as they cut the deficit to three but were unable to get any closer as the Flyers held on for a 25-21 victory to complete the sweep.

Wilhelm finished with a match-high 13 kills while Van Loo and Venema added 10 kills apiece. Mikah Freppon (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) and Haley Sobieralski (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) each had 18 assists and Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) had 18 digs.

Lewis finished the match with a .293 hitting percentage (45/11/116) while holding the Bearcats to a .100 attack percentage (30/18/120). The Flyers also had nine total team blocks in the contest.

Lewis continues its four match roadtrip next Friday as they head to Bolivar, Mo., to take on GLVC newcomer Southwest Baptist at 7 p.m.
