TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lewis' women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule at the University of Alabama's Roberta Alison Fall Classic this past Friday and Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) went 2-1 in singles action for the Flyers.
Davis, competing in the Mari Muller Singles Draw, defeated Alabama State's Maria Popova in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 and then defeated Tennessee-Martin's Natasha Sijan in a come from behind effort. Davis lost the opening set 6-3 but rallied to win the next two 6-4 and 7-5. She dropped her third match Kennesaw State's Brenna Reilly 6-3, 6-1.
Aleksandra Sredojevic (Belgrade, Serbia/) and
Joie Reisch (LaGrande Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) competed in the Jean Mills Single Draw. Sredojevic lost her first match to Troy's Tijana Svitlica 6-4, 6-4. She had a bye to the consolation finals and then defeated UT-Martin's Jillian Niedzialowski by default.
Reisch dropped her first match to KSU's Aspen Jarrett 6-1, 6-0. She defeated Niedzialowski in the consolation semifinals in three sets. Reisch dropped the opener 6-3 but won the next two 6-4, 6-2. In her final match Reisch lost to Mississippi's Victore de Samucewicz 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Sredojevic and Reisch, competed in the Nancy Pate Doubles Draw, where they dropped their opening match to ASU's Urska Velec and Bea Acena 6-3. The duo defeated KSU's Reilly and Sofia Pinedo in the consolation semis 6-3 before falling to Alabama-Birmingham's Jana Hecking and Alexia Witthaus Wine 6-0.
The Flyers will resume their season with their spring schedule in late January.
