PLAINFIELD, Ill. – The Lewis women's tennis team picked up its first win of 2019 defeating St. Francis 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill. The Flyers (1-3) won both doubles matches and three of the four singles matches in the contest. The Saints (0-1) defaulted at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Joie Reisch (LaGrande Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township),
Aleksandra Sredojevic (Belgrade, Serbia) and
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) each picked up two wins in the dual.
Reisch rallied to defeated Nikkie Christiansen at No. 1 singles in three sets. She dropped the opening set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5) then won the next two sets 6-0 and 10-8. Sredojevic defeated Grace Monahan at No. 2 singles in straight sets 6-1 and 6-0.
Davis picked up the win at No. 3 singles downing Michelle Robert 6-3, 6-1.
Katie Horn () dropped her match at No. 4 singles to Alyssa Larsen 6-0 and 7-5.
Oana Carmen Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) and
Tereza Pilzova (Prague, Czech Republic) won their matches by default.
Trus and Sredojevic teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Christiansen and Monahan 6-1 while Reisch and Pilzova won their doubles match over Robert and Larsen 6-0. Davis and
Sarah Markun (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) won by default at No. 3 doubles.
The Flyers are back in action on Friday morning taking on Ferris State at 11 a.m. at Five Star Tennis Center.
