COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 10th ranked Lewis men's volleyball team won the final two sets to rally for a 3-2 win at Ohio State on Thursday evening at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The Flyers, winners have five straight, improved to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in MIVA action while the Buckeyes drop to 5-10, 1-4 in MIVA play.

Lewis outhit Ohio State in the match .259 to .201. Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) led the Flyers with 14 kills while TJ Murray (Barrington, IL/Barrington HS) finished with 11 kills and Julian Moses (Atlanta, GA/Atlanta International School) added 10 kills and 11 digs. Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) had 47 assists, 11 digs, six total blocks and two service aces.

The opening set featured 11 ties and six lead changes and was tied at 18 when Lewis made its run. The Flyers ran off four in a row taking advantage of three Buckeye errors to take a 22-18 lead. OSU answered with three points in a row to cut the lead to 22-21 when Sean Ryan and Blake Leeson teamed up to block Yoshimoto at the net. However, Lewis was able to close out the set scoring the final three points to win 25-21.

The Buckeyes led for a majority of the second set and scored six of the final eight points to take the set 25-18. They hit .542 in the frame and were led by Martin Lallemand and Tyler Alter with four kills each.

The Flyers led by as many as three points late the swing set but Ohio State used an 8-4 run to get to set point first at 24-23 on a kill by Reese Devilbiss. Kyle Bugée evened things at 24 with a kill but the Buckeyes scored the final two points of the stanza to win 26-24.

Lewis used a 5-1 run early in set four to break a 6-all tie to take control of the set. Ohio State got to within 14-12 on a kill by Austin Gerwig but the Flyers were able to close it out to force a fifth set by scoring 11 of the final 16 points to win 25-17.

Lewis fell behind 4-1 in the final set and were forced to use an early timeout. The Flyers regrouped and then rattled off six straight points to a 7-4 lead. The Buckeyes scored back-to-back points to get within 7-6 but that would be the closest they got as
Lewis scored six of the next nine points to seize control at 13-9 when Yoshimoto, Murray and Coenen teamed up to block Lallemand. Ohio State fought off one set point but couldn't fight off a second as Murray ended the match with a kill.

The Flyers continue their roadtrip on Saturday heading to Lebanon, Ill., to take on McKendree at 7 p.m.
