Ozark, Mo. – The Lewis baseball team dropped the opening game of its four-game series at Drury on Friday 13-0 in seven innings. The Flyers fall to 3-1 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 3-4.
"It was just one of those days," Lewis baseball coach
Tim McDonough said. "We got behind in counts and couldn't recover. The tougher team won today."
Drury jumped on top with two runs in the first inning on a balk with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly to center field. The Panthers added two more in the third on an RBI triple and a single up the middle.
They scored four more in the fifth highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Nikko Calabro and another triple to left off the bat of Aaron Mann. Drury added five more in the sixth.
Lewis' offense was held to four hits in the contest with
Alex Kiszkowski (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg),
Ryan Schefske (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East),
Matt McCauley (Oakville, Mo./St. John Vianney) and
Eric Lucchesi (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) each tallying a hit.
Pete Hamot (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) suffered the loss allowing four runs on five hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work.
The Flyers and Panthers resume their series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
