QUINCY, Ill. – Lewis' women's basketball extended its winning streak to 12 with a 101-64 win at Quincy on Thursday evening. The Flyers improve to 25-2 overall and 16-1 in the GLVC while the Hawks fall to 5-21, 3-14 in GLVC play.
The 101 points matched a season-high for Lewis. It also scored a 101 points in the win over Central State back on Jan. 8.
The Flyers shot 54 percent (37-for-68) from the field in the contest, was 7-for-20 from three and shot 83 percent at the foul line. Lewis had six players reach double figures in scoring led by
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) with 21 points while
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) added 12,
Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South),
Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and
Reilly Olmstead (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) each finished with 10 points.
With her 21 points, Kelliher moved into fifth all-time in Division II history in scoring with 2,661 points and she's now third all-time in field goals made with 1,051.
The Flyers hit six of their first eight shots to begin the game and led 18-2 after Kaitlyn William's second three-pointer with 6:11 left in the opening quarter. Quincy hung around thanks to its long distance shooting as four of its six field goals were from downtown.
Lewis led 29-16 after the first 10 minutes but the Hawks opened the second quarter on a 7-1 run to cut the Flyer lead to 30-23 after a jumper by Alexa Low. Lewis pulled away thanks to a 29-6 run over the final eight minutes of the half to lead by 30 at the intermission.
The Flyers were held to 36 percent shooting in the third quarter while Quincy shot 45 percent but Lewis shot 80 percent at the foul line in the stanza to keep its lead.
Lewis dominated the final quarter shooting 56 percent (10-for-18) from the field while holding the Hawks to just 33.3 percent shooting.
The Flyers outscored Quincy 52-to-16 in points in the paint, 20-to-4 in points off turnovers and 38-to-28 in bench points. Lewis never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 39 points.
The Flyers close out the regular season on Saturday as they travel to Kirksville, Mo., to take on Truman State at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs dropped a 75-70 decision at home to Indianapolis on Thursday evening.
