PEORIA, Ill. – Lewis' softball team dropped a pair of contests at the Illinois Springfield Dome Tournament at the Louisville Slugger Dome in Peoria, Ill., on Friday. The Flyers, 2-6, lost their first game to Central Missouri 10-1 in five innings and dropped their second game of the day to Lindenwood 4-1.
Game 1 – Central Missouri 10 Lewis 1 five innings
The Jennies (6-5) sent nine batters to the plate in the home half of the second scoring five runs on five hits and an error. Taylor Dames had the big hit in the inning hitting a two-run homer down the left field line to put UCM up 5-0.
Lewis got a run back in the third on
Elexis Swartzentruber's (Normal, Ill./Normal Community) solo home run to center field. It was Swartzentruber's first home run of the season.
The Jens answered with three in the third and two in the fourth for the final margin.
The Flyers were held to five hits in the contest with Swartzentruber,
Morgan Weber (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland),
Cierra Taylor (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew),
Kristin Kavalauskas (Oak Forest, Ill./Tinley Park) and
Lauren Brennan (Cantonment, Fla./J.M. Tate) recording a hit each.
Taylor Boelte (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) got the start in the circle allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits in 1.1 innings pitched.
Game 2 – Lindenwood 4 Lewis 1
In its final game of the tournament, Lewis and Lindenwood were locked in a scoreless deadlock through four innings. The Lions (6-2) broke through first scoring four runs on four hits in the home half of the fifth. Austine Pauley and Hanna Porter had the big blows in the inning as each hit a two-run homer.
Taylor got the Flyers on the board in the sixth inning hitting her second home run in as many days. She led off the inning with the blast going to left center.
Lewis mustered six hits in the nightcap with Weber, Taylor, Brennan,
Olivia Magaldi (Mishawka, Ind./Penn),
Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) and
Alexandra Piatt (Granger, Ind./Penn) registering a hit apiece.
Sanders got the start in the circle allowing four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in five innings pitched.
The Flyers return to the diamond next Saturday as they begin their Spring Break trip in Clermont, Fla., with a game against Gannon beginning at 8 a.m.
