ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' women's lacrosse overcame a two-goal deficit in the final 12 minutes to defeat Maryville 8-7 for the first win in program history on Saturday at Lewis Stadium. With the win, the Flyers improve to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while the Saints fall to 1-3, 0-1 in the GLIAC.

Kirk Lamitie was happy with his players performance.
"I'm proud of my athletes' accomplishment on the field," he said. "We were looking to make an impact today while focusing on growth towards the future and our growth during the game today showed the resolve we have to build a successful program.
"I couldn't be happier with the effort by our defensive unit and a solid performance by
Faith Engle (Marysville, OH/Marysville High School) between the pipes," he continued. "My goal this year was to compete with the other first year programs and today we took a big step.
The Flyers scored twice in the first five minutes of the contest to take the early lead.
Alyson Jines (Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley High School) scored her first goal of the season 0:32 into the contest and then
Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard High School) followed with a goal at the 25:22 mark for her fourth tally of the season.
Maryville came back scoring two goals in 75 seconds to even the score. Claire Martin scored at 21:33 and then Addison Devers scored at 20:18.
Lewis regained the lead at the 10:35 mark when
Mackenzie Turner (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) scored on an unassisted goal for her first of the season.
The Saints responded five minutes later when Martin found the back of the net for the second time with an assist from Alexis Roe.
The Flyers took a 4-3 lead into the locker room on Traub's second goal of the afternoon of an assist from Turner with 1:19 to play in the opening half.
Maryville tied the score three minutes into second half when Bri Laster scored an unassisted goal. Nearly eight minutes later, Laster gave the Saints their first lead of the day with her second goal of the afternoon on an assist from Brianna Bravo. Martin scored for a third team with 16:37 left in the contest for the hat trick.
Jines scored the second of her three goals exactly five minutes later on an unassisted goal to make it 6-5 and then tied the game 66 seconds later with another unassisted goal.
Scarlet Kellner (Holland, MI/West Ottawa High School) put Lewis ahead with her first goal of the season with less than six minutes to play and then Turner added an insurance goal with a man advantage 71 seconds later.
The Saints cut the Flyer lead to 8-7 on Devers second goal of the contest with 0:21 left and had a chance to tie it in the closing seconds when a foul was called on Lewis with 0:06 left but they were unable to get a shot off before time ran out.
Jines led the Flyers with three goals while Turner and Traub had two each. Traub and Kellner each won three draw controls while Brittany Scharf caused four turnovers and picked up seven ground balls. Engle made seven saves goal to earn the victory.
Lewis is back at home when it welcomes Indianapolis to Lewis Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday (March 27).
