AURORA, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over No. 48 Illinois Springfield Wednesday (April 10) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at the Vaughan Tennis Center.
Lewis earned the doubles point, winning two of three matches.
Oana Carmen Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) and
Aleksandra Sredojevic (Belgrade, Serbia) beat Neha Mokhasi and Ashley Long 6-3 at No. 1 and
Tereza Pilzova (Prague, Czech Republic) and
Joie Reisch (LaGrande Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) topped Kena Bere and Nethra Thenappan 6-4 at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles team of
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) and
Sarah Markun (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) fell to Maegan Flight and Steph Reynolds 6-3.
In singles Trus won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 over Mokhasi, Pilzova defeated Long 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and Reisch topped Bere 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4. Sredojevic lost to Flight 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3, Davis fell to Thenappan 6-4, 6-3 and Markun fell to Kaitlyn Thornhill 6-2, 6-2.
The win moved the Flyers to 6-7 overall, 3-1 in the GLVC, while UIS fell to 12-4 overall, 2-2 in the GLVC.
Next up for the Flyers is a trip to Southern Indiana in the final GLVC meet of the regular season Friday (April 12).
