ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team clinched second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's East Division with a 5-2 win at Southern Indiana on Friday (April 12). With the win the Flyers improve to 7-7 on the season and 4-1 in the GLVC while the Screaming Eagles fall to 4-14 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC.
Lewis won four of the six singles matches in the dual.
Oana Carmen Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) defeated Lauren Hambrock 6-0, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles it was
Tereza Pilzova (Prague, Czech Republic) knocking off Lauryn Thompson 6-2, 6-0.
Aleksandra Sredojevic (Belgrade, Serbia) beat Alex Jamison 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles it was
Joie Reisch (LaGrande Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) defeating Rachel Anderson 6-0, 6-0. USI's Kylie Skepnek defeated
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at No. 5 singles. At No. 6 singles it was Shelby Braselton defeating
Sarah Markun (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) 7-5, 6-1.
The Flyers swept the doubles matches to earn the point. Trus and Sredojevic defeated Hambrock and Jamison 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles Reisch and Pilzova beat Thompson and Anderson 6-4. Davis and Markun knocked off Skepnek and Braselton 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Lewis is back in action on Saturday taking on Alabama-Huntsville at 12 p.m. in Huntsville, Ala.
